She was a hugely popular writer, publishing over 600 books for children and is the fourth most-translated author behind Agatha Christie, Jules Verne and William Shakespeare. The FAMOUS FIVE series was launched in 1942 with FIVE ON A TREASURE ISLAND. Twenty further novels would follow (and eight short stories) and it remains the best-selling children’s book series of all time with over 100 million copies sold. The FAMOUS FIVE books have been loved by generations, testimony to Blyton’s timeless story-telling. Enid was married twice and had two daughters, Imogen and Gillian. She died on 28 November 1968, aged 71
